When considering a trip to Disney World or Walt Disney Land consider saving yourself some money. The tickets to get into Disney are expensive enough, but then you also have to budget for food and lodging and the total can really get costly. With the prices of just about everything going up it's helpful to get the most for your money. I will show you how you can save on your hotel and food while on a Disney vacation. You can also find out how to save money on souvenirs, everyone wants a memento from their trip.
You will need to drink and stay hydrated while at Disney. If you are going to visit Walt Disney World or Disney Land during the summer months it can really get hot and sticky. Ice water is provided for free at the counter services of restaurants, tap water not bottled water, if you ask. There are also water fountains located near the rest rooms. Disney wouldn't want someone fainting or worse from dehydration, although I'm sure it happens quite often. Do you know how to tell if you are dehydrated? Just pinch the skin on the back of your hand; if it doesn't snap back into place then you need to drink something. I suggest bringing a water bottle or two and buy a carrying strap. You can get your free ice water and fill the bottles up and still get on the rides without having to dump the water or chug it before you get on the rides.
Ask about discounts and upgrades for your hotel. Yes they have discounts even on the Disney resorts, although they are not well publicized. You can ask for deals once you book and then again when you arrive. If you belong to an auto club or other such club you might be able to get a percentage off of tickets or rooms. If you are traveling during off-peak season you might be able to get room upgrades, it might only be a better view, but it still adds to that "magical experience." Other discounts from clubs include AARP, NEA and any frequent travelers programs. You can trade in points from credit cards for airline tickets or for a rental car. Shop around for the best price; you would do this for other major purchases, why not for your vacation.
Shops and souvenirs: You can find a discounted shelf at nearly every souvenir shop you never know you might find something you like. Shop on eBay or Disney store outlet before you go on your trip. Get a Disney Rewards Visa from Chase and you can earn points for gifts or get discounts in the shops, parks and resorts. If you are going to collect character autographs get a book for signatures before you go, you could even make your own with Disney scrapbook paper. Set a budget for souvenirs for each person then once they reach their budgeted dollar amount they are done buying for the day or trip. If you are traveling with kids you can have them save allowances or do extra chores to save up money for souvenirs.
Food is expensive at Disney but there are a few ways to combat the hugeness of your food bill. Try snacking on fruit, each park has a fruit stand if you pass by load up; most fruits are only a dollar, a real Disney bargain. You can bring a few snacks in with you, nothing that needs to be kept cold. I would suggest bringing crackers and granola bars, or other stuff that can withstand the heat. Some of the restaurants serve large portions that you can share and don't forget about the kid's menu. Eating on the run can save some money verses the more expensive sit down table service restaurants.
